Bare Native, along with our partners, prescribed a select blend of natural ingredients (our nano-nutrient matrix) that worked with the lakes euphoric problems. Our nano-nutrient matrix, packed full of nutrients, was dispersed into the lake feed microalgae/diatoms. We were able to prove that more diatoms equals more marine life, clean waters and clean air.
Location: Indian Lake, Michigan.
Coordinates: 41.9936° N, 86.2133° W
About the Lake
- 500 Acres, Max Depth 30 feet
- Classified as Eutrophic (impaired) in 2009 Excessive Eurasian Water Milfoil
- Harmful Algal Blooms developed in 2011 & 2012
Bare Native, along with our partners, prescribed a select blend of natural ingredients (our nano-nutrient matrix) that worked to fight against the eutrophic problems found within the lake. Our nano-nutrient matrix, packed full of nutrients, was dispersed into the lake to feed microalgae/diatoms. We were able to prove that more diatoms equals more marine life, brought the water back to health, and cleaned the air.
About the Project
- Selected aeration for muck reduction and milfoil reduction. Looking to reduce or eliminate chemical treatment.
- 88 Acre South Bay Aeration System installed in 2010 with Biological treatment.
- 400 Acre Whole Lake Aeration System installed in 2012 with Biological Treatment
- Nutrient Filtration Technology installed on the Mann Drain inlet in Spring of 2014
January 2016 analysis of scientific samples collected from Indian Lake from 2012 through 2015. That data shows that since installation and operation of the aeration system we have experienced the following:
- Higher and more consistent levels of dissolved oxygen in the lake water.
- Reduced conductivity in the water.
- Less dissolved solids since inception of aeration.
- Lower total nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) levels.
- Profound increase in water clarity.
- Greatly reduced algae & chlorophyll-a.
- Less muck / deeper lake / harder lake bottom.
- No EWM / native vegetation / better fishery.
